2008 The Master Montepulciano

Tasting Notes

Vibrant crimson red.

Lifted scents of raspberries, mocha and subtle tones of sarsaparilla fill the nose and the palate dances with raspberry, violets and hints of spice all wrapped up in velvety tannins.

A long linear wine that begs for a plate of cured meats, olives and cheese.

Winemaking Report

Picked mid April the fruit was destemmed and fermented in an open top fermenter. Following fermentation the wine underwent maceration for nine days. The wine was basket pressed and racked to French barriques where it underwent secondary fermentation. After 13 months of barrel maturation the wine was racked for bottling.

Vintage Conditions

Decent winter rainfalls set for a great spring. With the growing season off to a good start, January and February followed with ideal mild summer weather and saw healthy vines bearing good crops.

Our harvest commenced late February but the later ripening varietals were struck by the worst heatwave on record in March and it was a battle to maintain healthy vines and fruit. Fortunately these varietals have great heat tolerance and although the weather was harsh we were still blessed with magnificent wines.
