2006 The Distance

2006 The Distance Shiraz

A proud Barossa red wine sourced from the Tscharke Family Seppeltsfield Vineyard in the Barossa's premium grape growing area, this personality filled Shiraz represents classic Barossa Valley, a must for any cellar.

Tasting Notes

Lifted stone fruit, blackberry and pepper dominates the nose of this sophisticated wine. The palate is gorgeous with flavours of classic Barossa Shiraz, rich in dark berry, stone fruit and subtle spice. Divine with char grilled kangaroo fillet and roasted beetroot salad with tangy goat fetta.

Winemaking Report

The fruit is crushed and fermented in open top fermenters. Heading down boards were used for three weeks to submerge the cap to ensure maximum extraction of tannins and colour. Fermentation was followed by 10 days of extended maceration before being basket pressed and racked to barrel for maturation and secondary malolactic fermentation.

Vintage Conditions

2006 was a great vintage, with the weather conditions near perfect. Good rainfall late in winter and early spring gave the vineyards a superb start to the season followed by ideal day and night temperatures for fruit ripening. It was great to be able to delay harvesting to achieve optimum tannin ripeness.
