A proud Barossa red wine sourced from the Tscharke Family Seppeltsfield Vineyard in the Barossa’s premium grape growing area, this personality filled Shiraz represents classic Barossa Valley, a must for any cellar.
The Distance Shiraz is one of the few exceptional wines to come from a drought stricken 2007.
After 31 months of careful French oak habitation the wine evolved into a big dark and broody style, casting shadows of peppery spice over dark cherries and hints of ripe nectarine. The seamless texture is complex and requires a sophisticated palate to be fully understood.
The fruit is crushed and fermented in open top fermenters. Heading down boards were used for three weeks to submerge the cap to ensure maximum extraction of tannins and colour. Fermentation was followed by 10 days of extended maceration before being basket pressed and racked to barrel for maturation and secondary malolactic fermentation.
Leading up to Vintage 2007 we suffered a damaging drought which lasted the whole season. Fortunately in the winery the wines behaved very well with clean primary and secondary fermentation which resulted in superbly elegant wines.
