Sourced from the Tscharke Family Marananga Vineyard planted three generations ago, this blend has brought together history, culture and innovation to make a wine that captures the great qualities of Shiraz and Mataro into one satisfying full bodied wine. Indulge now or cellar and reward yourself in the next 10 years.
Lifted stone fruit, blackberry and spice aromas are followed by a generous palate. The Mataro stands up front proudly presenting its liquorice and cloves while the Shiraz soon takes over full of tasty fruit including nectarines, blueberries and hints of violets. Superbly structured this multi layered wine is the perfect partner for rich hearty dishes such as braised oxtail and melt in your mouth Osso Bucco.
The fruit is crushed and fermented in open top fermenters. Heading down boards were used for three weeks to submerge the cap to ensure maximum extraction of tannins and colour. Fermentation was followed by 10 to 14 days of extended maceration before being basket pressed and racked to barrel for maturation and secondary malolactic fermentation.
2006 was a great vintage, with the weather conditions near perfect. Good rainfall late in winter and early spring gave the vineyards a superb start to the season followed by ideal day and night temperatures for fruit ripening. It was great to be able to delay harvesting to achieve optimum tannin ripeness.
