It’s time…the story from the beginning: Graduating from Roseworthy/Adelaide University in 2000 and armed with a degree in viticulture and winemaking, Damien embarks on his winemaking journey.
“If you’ve been following us on Facebook and Twitter you’d have seen our Glaymond story unfold. This was my very first wine label and a play on my dad’s name – Glen Raymond Tscharke.
Being an innovative individual, the first winemaking effort took place in an old farm implement shed on the Stonewell property. In lieu of a ‘proper’ fermentation tank the truck-servicing pit sufficed. And yes, the inaugural wine was a Shiraz.
Selling my dirt bike to finance our first fermentation tank seemed the right thing to do. We were big and bold in those early days and 100% export – working with regional classics such as Shiraz, Mataro and Cabernet Sauvignon.
I’m proud of where we’ve come from and how we’ve grown, we’ve held true to our philosophy: to capture the warmth and richness of the Marananga region, whilst offering long-lived wines of balance and power with excellent varietal definition.” Damien
