Johann Gottfried Tscharke and wife Johanne Christiane (nee Fichtner) leave Hamburg, Germany on 25 October 1860 onboard the “Sophie and Friedericke” which had a total of 77 passengers. Arriving at Port Misery (near Glenelg), South Australia on 15 February 1861.

Johanne Christianes sister and husband had migrated to Light Pass (near Nuriootpa, Barossa) in 1855. After renting land off George Fife Angas in the area of Light Pass Gottfried buys land at Ebenezer (Northern Barossa) in 1869.
